Renegades of Routine
Embarking on my regular journey to the subway station, I've perfected the art of autopilot. A left turn here, a right turn there, and I'm on my way to the city, oblivious to the world around me. Whether it's the sudden "For Sale" sign on Glen's lawn, the new pothole that's seemingly sprouted overnight, or my neighbor's shiny new car – these nuances pass me by like background noise.
But why?
Because like many others, I'm a creature of habit. The path of least resistance, the well-trodden route – it's easy, convenient, and requires minimal mental effort. And let's face it, the quickest way from point A to B has become my mantra.
Routines, of course, serve a purpose, especially when they reinforce good habits. Take my feeble attempts at swimming, for instance. Despite my childhood swimming lessons, I found myself languishing in the shallow end, always with a drink in hand, while the rest of my family navigated the depths with ease. It took a brave leap into 1:1 swimming lessons to kick-off the New Year to break the cycle. Late-night sessions were my haven, shielded from the judging eyes of water-whispering kids less than a quarter my age. Now, I gracefully meander in the deep end, with newfound confidence, courtesy of breaking away from the ordinary.
And herein lies the excitement of our upcoming trip – not just the journey itself, but the rebellion against our ingrained routines. No more mommy cooks and daddy cleans. We're venturing into uncharted territory – a potential role reversal extravaganza. It's time to experiment, to do things differently, and perhaps even for me discover a newfound love for culinary adventures.
The real thrill is actually breaking free from the shackles of the daily grind, where we have the luxury of time to explore alternative paths, both metaphorically and literally. We're renegades of routine, rebels with a cause – to rediscover wonder and ensure we don’t lose our sense of curiosity in the sea of mundane predictability.
So, as we pack our bags and prepare to explore the uncharted, we will embrace the chaos, relish the unexpected, and revel in the joy of being renegades of routine, questioning the 'whys' and savouring the freedom to choose our own adventure. After all, it's not just a trip; it's a rebellion against the ordinary.
So, adieu to routines, adios to predictability and arriverderci to the mundane– here's to embracing our first stop next week in the "Land Down Under" - a paradise of kangaroos, koalas, and kookaburras.
